UMCG Mortuary

Groningen – The new mortuary and the abduction (cutting room) form the closure of the Groningen University Medical Center (UMCG) by KuiperCompagnons.

In this practice, a lot of steel, glass and white tiles are used in the construction of the freezer compartments and rooms, which leads to a sterile environment.
Given the few times that the space has a modest representative function, it has been decided in the first place to divide it into a space that is open to the public and a closed work section. Secondly, by adding colored materials and wood, the "public" part has certainly not become a bare technical space, but a discreet and well-kept environment.
