Central shopping district

Middelburg, the capital of Zeeland province, has a beautiful historic town centre that, despite the Second World War’s devastations, is loved by many. Naturally, for reconstruction, an approach that fully respected this historical character was required. In addition to designing a new public space, modern town centre functions, such as shopping, traffic and accessibility also had to be taken into account. KC was selected to create an inspiring future vision as a Master Plan for the central shopping district.

Historic and contemporary
The transformation of the shopping district was carried out in several phases. For each stage, KC compiled a detailed plan. The sum of all parts resulted in the high-quality development of the public space in the capital of Zeeland, neatly combining historical value with modern day urban functions
