Skoatterwâld

Heerenveen NL –

More often than not, it takes a while before new housing areas are truly liveable. Usually the houses are built and only then, the public spaces are developed. Not for the new neighbourhood of Skoatterwâld in Heerenveen. The basic idea there was to first develop a valuable exterior environment with a strong green ethos.

Contemporary country seat
The ‘green structure’ consists of shady lanes and a number of so-called ‘green chambers’ or park-like woodlands that stand in close relation to the surrounding forest. Also, the nearby historic mansion of Oranjewoud (‘Orange Woods’) finds its place in the overall design. Due to the many green touches, consistently integrated with architectural elements such as small bridges and transformer stations, the new housing area has the atmosphere of a modern country seat.
